Hey guys! So I recently went to the cinema to watch Kong: Skull Island.
The movie itself was action-packed from the start. It is dated back 40 years ago however starts with the end of the Second World War where we get the first appearance of Kong himself. He’s HUGE! We are then brought to the year 1973 and are introduced to Bill Randa (played by John Goodman) who is head of a company Monarch. Bill alongside his group gathers a naive team of Sky Devils helicopter squadron led by Lt. Col. Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson), former SAS Captain/expert tracker James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston), and (anti)-war photojournalist Mason Weaver (Brie Larson). They begin their journey to Skull Island, home of Kong. Within minutes of flying onto the island, and disturbing the nature residents, they have seemingly pissed off Kong and of course caused havoc. Having been split up, the movie shows each group trying to find their way to the north of the island (ALIVE) to get home. Being in a place called ‘Skull Island’, obviously their journey was not as smooth as they hoped. Let’s just say an abnormally giant spider, massive lizards that Hank Marlow (John C. Reilly), calls ‘Skullcrawlers’ and the stubbornness of Lt. Col. Preston Packard causes their voyage to be just a tad more painful. I won’t spoil the WHOLE movie but I will add, do not expect everyone, even the hot one(s), to return home…
Overall, the movie was money well spent. The charismatic actors added the comedy and I loved the eye candy provided by Chapman (Toby Kebbell), who’s smile and FACE makes me melt… It’s great to see new remakes of old movies, in this case King Kong, sticking to the original storyline – Kong is not a monster! There are moments that will make you jump and have your heart racing but that’s another reason why enjoyed watching Kong personally. Only critique is that I would have liked to see the only female in the movie have a stronger role and not have the stereotypical scene of the female being rescued!
